Do Schlage Keypad Locks and Deadbolts meet industry standards?
Schlage Residential keypad products have been engineered, utilizing proven commercial technology, to meet strict ANSI/BHMA Grade 2 standards.
Q. How many preset codes are programmed with Schlage Keypad Locks and Deadbolts?
A. Each keypad lock or deadbolt is preset at the factory with one (1) unique programming code and two (2) unique user codes. The factory preset code labels are found in two places: a) on the front of the Programming/Operating Instructions and b) on the backside of the keypad assembly. (Note: The lock must be removed from the door to access the preset code label on the backside of the keypad assembly.)
Q. Can the Schlage preset programming or user codes be changed?
A. It is easy to change either the preset six-digit programming code or the four-digit preset user codes at any time. Refer to the Programming/Operating Instructions for complete details or view the programming video on www.schlage.com.
Q Why is six-digit programming code required to add or delete a user code?
A. For added security, a valid six-digit programming code must be entered in order to add, delete or change a user or programming code. In order to prevent unauthorized changes, the six-digit programming code should not be shared and a record of all the codes should be kept in a safe place.
Q How many user codes can be stored in Schlage Keypad Locks and Deadbolts?
A. The keypad lock can store up to nineteen (19) four-digit user codes, in addition to the six-digit programming code. This provides the option of creating a unique code for all family members.
Q. Can all of the user codes and the programming code be changed in the lock to ensure previous owners do not have access to the house?
A. Schlage Keypad Locks have advanced features that provide the option of changing all of the codes for maximum security. To change all codes, including the programming code, follow these steps:
1. Change the six-digit programming code
2. Delete ALL user codes
3. Add NEW user codes
Refer to the Programming/Operating Instructions for complete details or view the programming video on www.schlage.com.
Q. What if the programming code is not known?
A. The factory preset code labels are found in two places: a) on the front of the Programming/Operating Instructions and b) on the backside of the keypad assembly. If the programming code has been changed and is unknown, it is necessary to reset the lock to factory settings. For instructions on how to reset the lock to original preset settings, please refer to the Programming/Operating Instructions.
Q. Do Schlage Keypad Locks and Deadbolts fit standard residential doors?
A. Schlage Keypad Locks and Deadbolts are designed to fit most standard doors. Out of the box this deadbolt will work on doors with thickness of 1 3/8 inch to 1 3/4 inches. For 2 inch thickness doors, see the thick door optional pack below. In most cases, Schlage Keypad Locks and Deadbolts can be installed in under 30 minutes using only a screwdriver; no additional holes need to be drilled into the door. If the door has not already been prepped for a door lock, please go to www.schlage.com and download the proper template to prepare the door.
Q. Does it matter whether the door is left-handed or right-handed?
A. Schlage Keypad Locks and Deadbolts are designed to fit both right-handed and left-handed doors.
Q. How often should the battery be changed?
A. The battery is expected to last up to three years under normal operating conditions. Extreme high and low temperatures may affect battery performance. If the battery is low, a series of high/low beeps sound and theSchlag key flashes red after a valid code has been entered. The lock operates as normal immediately following the alerts. The critical battery indicator causes the Schlage button key to flash red and the lock does not operate. The mechanical key can be used to unlock the lock under these conditions. Replacing the battery once every year is recommended to ensure optimal performance.
Q. Can Schlage Keypad Locks be re-keyed to match existing keys?
A. Yes, Schlage Keypad Locks and Deadbolts can be re-keyed to match existing keys, providing One-Key Convenience (they must by the same keyway).
