Ancient Roman Face Lock

I believe it's a padlock type of lock. The larger picture is of the outside, front and back. The smaller picture is of the inside of the lock. This strange lock was profiled in the book "Schlussel und Schloss" (lock and key) by H. Pankoffer. Locks from this period are extremely rare items!
