Unfortunately as much as most of us hate keys we realize there are times when you have to use
regular keyed locks so you may as well use the best.
American made Medeco high security locks are better because they use a mechanism that actually makes them as
close to pick-proof and bump-proof as
possible. In addition all Medeco locks are heavy and tough and defy attacks better than just about
any lock made. See the October 2005 issue of Consumer Reports Magazine to see just how much even they like Medeco Locks! If you have to use a conventional key lock and are concerned about lock picking or lock bumping then Medeco locks are the answer. We don't know of a better bump proof lock or a better way to defend against lock bumping.

•Highly pick resistant - more so than any other (conventional lock) because they have a special side bar feature that other locks don't have.
•Highly drill resistant because they have hardened steel inserts at the drill points.

Please note: before you buy any Medeco product know that some of our competitors will sell you a Medeco that only they can duplicate a key for. This may also be the case if they are using a Patriot system but to a lesser degree. In the future if you ever need more keys and the store you bought your Medeco locks go out of business, you may not be able to have new keys made. The regular Medeco has all of the security features of the patriot but you will always be able to have more keys made and also always be able to rekey your Medeco in the future. Some of our competitors want to lock you into buying only from them in the future. Another thing you should know: some Medeco cylinders and locks are made without the special side bar feature which is the feature most important that make the Medeco so difficult to pick and bump. Without this it's still a great lock but not anywhere as secure. Always make sure you Medeco has this side bar feature. Where you buy your high security locks could be just as important as buying them in the first place.
Also note that there are some people that claim a Medeco can be picked open easily. Don't believe it. Important parts (even just one) can be removed from the inside of a Medeco cylinder making it then appear to the untrained person that the Medeco has been picked. Unless this picking test is performed with a factory fresh Medeco and in a controlled environment with no possibility of of trick being used, again, don't believe it!
****Security Alert**** - "Lock bumping" or using a
"bump key" to open a lock is a real threat to
physical security. Bump keys are a fast and effective
hack against the low cost consumer grade locks sold in
hardware stores and home centers, and renders them
useless as a security device in seconds. We recommend
using high security locks and replacement cylinders or a keyless pushbutton lock.
High security, commercial
grade locks are sold through
factory authorized locksmiths and have patented security
measures designed specifically to thwart bump key
